I'm currently reading Flowers in the Blood, by Gay Courter.
It's set in Calcutta and is primarily about the Jews of Calcutta, India.

The book is set in the late 19th century and the name 'Flowers' refers to the flower, poppy from which opium is derived.. The part of the title '.....in the blood' refers to the fact that the main Character Dinah had opium in her blood, but that is not to say that she partook of the ills of opium. It merely alludes to the fact that she was born into a family of Opium Traders.

The book began with the 6 year old Dinah's mother being murdered at their home by her lover and Dinah having to live with the stigma of having had an adulterous, opium addicted mother murdered.... the result was an introspective, intelligent girl who had the clout to fight her personal battles both within and outside her family..

As a result, she had no proposals for marriage when she was well past the marriageable age despite the fact that she had a huge dowry and had her '1st crush' stolen by her aunt for her daughter...what results is anyone’s' guess.

I advise anyone who has a passion for drama, a good story line and interest in learning a 'lil bit more about the Jewish religion to read this book. My mum actually sent this book to me so here's a toast to my mother Daba, 'I wish you many years of laughter, more grand-children to look after and more blessings than you ever imagined!" Thanks Mum, you're the best.. Mwah!

I know you've heard it like milliom times from me but I am soooo busy guys... Its like the people in my office think I'm made of some materials other than flesh and bone. Please bear with me! Do you guys get this at work? I mean, when your employers see you are willing to work, they just pile up all the stuff on you and expect you to do something which would normally take an hour to do in 10 minutes flat? I mean what the crap? Gimme a break guys! Talking about breaks - I hardly have time to go out for lunch! As soon as I step out the door, someone calls my mobile to say the MD is looking for you or something... I mean what the!

I have had time to view all my fav blogs however and I saw ONB cooking up a storm on her blog, Calabargal has lovely pixs of the carnival, TMinx had some drama with an Okada man..., Chxta finally got his hair cut, "Lagos" Buki should be back in London and hopefully without malaria, 9ja bloke is beefing women somewhat, 9ja dude ponders about being a not-so-anonymous blogger, Uzo is worried about the future of Nigeria, some of our fellow bloggers lost some lost ones -the list is endless...

On a personal note, it was my wedding annivessary on the 11th! Yay! Nothing much happened sha... I give God the glory for letting hubby and I add yet another Year of what??? I can't exactly say marital bliss cos it certainly hasn't been 100% blissful as the fairy tales go but well, I am thankful all the same... Its been 4 years and 1 daughter so I know God still aint finished with us yet!

I have nothing much to add to this for now so let me end by saying Guys, blog on and remember - If you don't have time to blog, read someone else's!!

Got this from my bro-in-law and decided to share. Hope you enjoy....

An application was for employment
A program was a TV show
A cursor used profanity
A keyboard was a piano!

Memory was something that you lost with age
A CD was a bank account
And if you had a 3 ½ inch floppy
You hoped nobody found out!

Compress was something you did to garbage
Not something you did to a file
And if you unzipped anything in public
You'd be in jail for awhile!

Log on was adding wood to a fire
Hard drive was a long trip on the road
A mouse pad was where a mouse lived
And a backup happened to your commode!

Cut - you did with a pocket knife
Paste you did with glue
A web was a spider's home
And a virus was the flu!

I guess I'll stick to my pad and paper
And the memory in my head
I hear nobody's been killed in a computer crash
But when it happens they wish they were dead!
