It's a tad late for this Mayday post, but I have a few things on my mind now...hmmn, a lot of things have been weighing me down but the the thing that bugs me out the most is the fact that my church lost its Pastor, Pastor Eskor Mfon early this week.... I was truly saddened to hear this, after all we prayed for God to restore his health...I even heard that he was planning on returning to Nigeria after his treatment and he was doing very well, but I was so shocked to say the least when i heard yesterday morning that he had passed away.....

He was only 53 years old, full of life the last time I saw him and he just knew how to hold a service... We will surely miss him, he was an inspiration to lots of people, a teacher and he welcomed people from all walks of life to our church...He was such a simple man with a practical approach to christianity....

The song that reminds me so much of him is

Holy Spirit, move me now.....
make my life whole agin...
spirit move....over me....... 2x

and I also remeber the Psalm he taught us to pray and to love, Psalm 92 which goes,
1
It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD,
and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High:
2
to show forth thy loving-kindness in the morning,
and thy faithfulness every night,
3
upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery;
upon the harp with a solemn sound.
4
For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work:
I will triumph in the works of thy hands.
5
O LORD, how great are thy works!
And thy thoughts are very deep.
6
A brutish man knoweth not;
neither doth a fool understand this.
7
When the wicked spring as the grass,
and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish;
it is that they shall be destroyed for ever:
8
but thou, LORD, art most high for evermore.
9
For, lo, thine enemies, O LORD,
for, lo, thine enemies shall perish;
all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.
10
But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of a unicorn:
I shall be anointed with fresh oil.
11
Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies,
and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me.
12
The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree:
he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13
Those that be planted in the house of the LORD
shall flourish in the courts of our God.
14
They shall still bring forth fruit in old age;
they shall be fat and flourishing;
15
to show that the LORD is upright:
he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

I have come to accept that the Lord has taken him to a better place...
May his gentle soul rest in peace...

Those two songs are amongst so many things pastor Eskor taught me, he thought me to be a better man. My belief is that he'd finished what God wanted him here for, we all are here for a purpose. MY prayer is that he'll be welcomed into heaven with "good and faithful servant..." He touched so many lives and families and yet like Jesus, he was known to few. No newspaper in Nigeria seems to have the sad news about his death. I;m still in awe about how he died, i had looked forward to visiting Nigeria again especially with my wife to show our baby to him. We lost the first baby and he (Pastor Eskor)prayed for us even in that sad moment, he looked forward to our new baby...

I think i have to stop here as the tears roll out, i could go on and on about Pastor Eskor but there's nothing you all didn't know about him for he was such an open minded man. I remember as an usher in the city of David, he'd pass me by and cheerfully call me by my name and ask how i was doing, he'd ask for my brother too.

Well, like someone already said, " God knows best"...

God blees you all nd nothing less...May the peace which passeth all understanding be with you.

Nyemoni, my sympathies are with you and the rest of the church family. I was so sad to hear this news yesterday. I've visited COD a few times - I remember going there to hear Myles Munroe and Jackie McCullough when it was still in V/I. I also went to a healing service at the new church last year. And I have friends there, so I've been a 'friend of the church' for a while. In all my interactions with COD, I was always struck by Pastor Eskor's spiritual maturity, his confidence in God, his wisdom, and his ability to touch the lives of his flock in practical ways. He made a huge impact on so many lives in his short time on this earth. I guess all that's left is to thank God for his life and legacy, and to pray that God comforts his family and the church. It is well. He has fought a good fight and finished the race.

May his soul rest in Peace. It is hard to loose someone close to us especially when the personis a servant in God's vineyard.

I havent heard of Pastor Mfon or COD before. (Maybe I have been away too long?!?!?) My beloved pastor in Calabar lost his dear wife too last month and I couldnt help but ask God - these people serve you faithfully. How could this happen? But he sure knows best.

May his soul rest in peace, Amen.

I google-searched th web for articles on Pastor Eskor's death cos I thought it might be a rumour. Iran into a pathetic piece on this website: www.yomisays.com. Check out my comment(by Olu).
Pastor Eskor was a lovely man of GOD and a member of Christ's army. I pray that The Comforter would comfort the family he left behind.

I knew Pastor Eskor was ill and had been for quite a while, but i only just heard today that he had passed on.

It was to Pastor Eskor's alter call that I responded (I used to attend City of David when I still lived in Nigeria and when the church was based at The Lagoon) and became a Christian. And three years later he was the pastor that officiated at my wedding.

It's come as a huge shock and he shall be sorely missed. One thing I am so glad about is that I have two huge boxes full of his sermons on tape. I shall be going through this vast collection again.

@ chidi...Amen to that...
@ vera ikeji...true talk, though it still hurts... Amen...
@ daddy's girl... you knew him so well, judging by your comment.. he was so simple... and made being a christian so practical...I also loved his wit.. I can go on and on... I am sure many will miss him, but of course God loves him better than we all do...
@ calabar gal, thanks, I'm sorry about your pastors wife... may God heal your Pastor with the knowledge that his wife is in a better place...
@ copido..A big Ament to that... Thanks for stopping by my space.. God bless..
@ pilgrimage to self.. Yeah, you were one of the older members then, from the Lagoon...I can imagine the shock you must have felt.. In church on sunday, the Pastor who ministered said his last son (Pastor Eskors') was in the hospital when he died and when they were informed of his death, naturally Pastor Eskors wife started crying and her son comforted her saying, "Mum, I can only imagine the kind of Mansion Dad would live in, in Heaven... I only pray they'd allow us in when we get there...think about the warm welcome he would receive from the Angels..." That was such a vivid picture in my mind...Nathaniel (trumpets) was asked to blow a tune to give respect to Pastor Eskor...the church clapped for over 5 minutes... It was so beautiful cos I just felt calm after that... May God be with his extended family on earth..He is one who can truly say as in 2 Tim 4:7 "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith"

I had always heard of Pastor Eskor and COD right from the East. COD was the benchmark parish every pastor wanted. When i came to Lagos, i went for the second Lazarus come forth programe... any of you remember that? This church was full of amazement. When i got there at 7am, there was nobody on stage, but someone was on the mic somewhere praying in the spirit with every other persons on their seat praying in the Holy Spirit. This went on for about an hour.

That healing service was such an awesome one, i was always praying for another opportunity to go to COD. Each time i see him in the camp i wld rem that day and was filled with respect for this man of God who made an impact in such a great way.

He was known in the RCCG for church planting and soul winning the same way Pastor Kalejaiye is known for annointing.

His death has shaken RCCG worldwide just to tell you how far he had impacted his world. Though he was not my parish pastor as i was not a member of COD, i admired him from afar.

My pastor used to say that his vision is to make our parish then as the COD of Akwa Ibom Province of the RCCG.

I am still in deep shock this past week hoping that this is a dream that will soon pass away. But i am so confident of the grace of God that was on Pastor Eskor and how the Lord will reward him, but of course the hurt and pain in our hearts... cant just help these tears and pains
